Alkaline vs. Acid Diet? What is it? Before I answer that question, let me tell you about my journey.
In 2008, I experienced excruciating pain for two weeks. It was difficult to get in and out of the bed and my car. Unable to endure the pain any longer, I ended up at the doctor’s office. I was given pain killers and muscle relaxers that only immobilized me. After taking a bone density test, I was diagnosed with Osteopenia. My journey started with taking sodas out of my diet and taking all natural supplements with First Fitness Nutrition. The pain went away after two months, so I thought all was well.
In July 2011, I went for a follow-up appointment with my doctor. Unfortunately, he told me that I had Osteoporosis, which is a skeletal disease caused by deterioration of the bones. Not taking care of this issue could result in me being wheel chair bound for the rest of my life. I felt incredibly fragile, frightened and vulnerable. Additionally, my doctor was monitoring my high blood pressure and my weight because I was obese. After being given three choices of medications to take to help with this condition (along with their negative side effects), I asked my doctor to give me a chance to research this first. He agreed and scheduled me to come back in three months.
I opted to search for other alternatives to medication. In my search, I asked God to help me because I had no idea what I was looking for. God, with his unending grace, helped me discover information that has completely changed my life.
My research led me to information regarding an Alkaline vs. Acid Diet. I learned in order to maintain good health,
my diet should consist of at least 60% alkaline forming foods and no more than 40% acid forming foods. I also discovered the importance of pH and how acidic foods creat an environment where disease thrives. So with all this new information, I started my lifestyle change in Aug 2011.
This 3 month journey involved much prayer, preparation and persistence, but revealed awesome results. When I returned to my doctor for another follow-up appointment, I was to select 1 of the 3 medications he suggested. He told me that I could follow up with him in one year regarding my osteoporosis diagnosis, but I didn’t have to take any of the suggested medication.
I was so surprised about this news. All I was trying to do was restore my bones and God guided me to something that healed my other health issues. Over the next year, I went from a size 16 to a size 6 and my weight has stabilized. I had never been in this position before. It was exciting. In October 2012, I had my bone density test and I was blessed that I no longer had an Osteoporosis diagnosis.
I thank God for leading me to this information and blessing my body with restored health. I am going to stay obedient to God’s food.Because of my experience, it has become my passion to see everyone eat healthy at all ages. I accomplish this through offering workshops and coaching so I can show people how to embrace a healthy lifestyle as well.
